BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Nighthawks Men's and Women's Cross Country teams have qualified for the 2018 New England Regional Cross Country Championships by virtue of their finishes at the New England Collegiate Conference Championship on Sept. 28.
It's the first time a Nighthawks Cross Country program will be represented at the Regional Championships for both the men's and women's teams.
The women's cross country team finished third in the NECC Championships and placed four runners on the All-Conference Second Team. The Nighthawk men finished fourth in the Conference Championship and had four runners finish in the top-15.
"This is a huge step for our XC program. This will be the first time in Newbury history that we attend a meet of this caliber," said Head Coach Henry Morales. "We are up against the top-five men and women of all the cross country teams in the New England region in hopes to punch a ticket into the national meet. Our returns have done such a great job setting a pace for our freshman class. I anticipate a great race from both teams."
The New England Regionals take place Saturday, Nov. 10, hosted by Bowdoin College in Bowdoin, Maine. Teams or individuals that successfully qualify for Nationals will race in the Division III Cross Country Championships in Winneconne, Wis. on Nov. 17, hosted by the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
