Newbury Introduces General Business Core

May 22, 2018 – Newbury will be introducing a general business core into the Roger A. Saunders School of Business and Hospitality Management, set to begin in the Fall 2018 semester. This change will ensure that all business students graduate with a unified and strong base education, effectively preparing them for a variety of career paths.

The new general business core will train students in many facets of business study for success in all types of organizations. Additionally, the core will provide students with a stable foundation to prepare them for pursuit of an MBA.

Students will take classes in marketing, management, finance, accounting, business law, economics, organization theory, statistics and more to become well-rounded and competent professionals. Classes will emphasize business analysis, current events, collaboration, etc. to ensure students are prepared for the constantly-changing modern workforce.

Assistant Professor of Marketing and Business Management, Alex Rodriguez, said: “Our students will truly be 'real world ready.'  With the skills gained in this curriculum, they will be technically sound and better prepared to enter the workforce and add value to any type of organization upon being hired. The new business core will also make the electives we offer and plan to offer in the business school more interesting and valuable for our learning community because when students better understand the how of business, they will be better able make a business case and lead strategically. This initiative also better positions the business school to attain further accreditations and elevate the academic environment of the business school and the College as a whole.”

The skills learned through the general business core are valued by professionals across fields. Students who graduate from the Roger A. Saunders School of Business and Hospitality Management will be ready to enter the workforce as competent professionals, strong leaders, lifelong learners and ethical and engaged citizens.
