May 4, 2018 – Newbury College is pleased to announce that a Davis Educational Foundation Presidential Grant in the amount of $10,000 has been received to conduct a feasibility study on lowering the cost of education while continuing to enhance the academic and cocurricular experience for Newbury students. The grant was received from the Davis Educational Foundation, established by Stanton and Elizabeth Davis after Mr. Davis’s retirement as chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc.
More than 90 percent of Newbury’s student body receives financial aid and the College is dedicated to ensuring all students can afford their dreams of earning a degree. This David Educational Foundation grant will allow Newbury to prioritize students and preserve the high-quality education we provide.
The goal of the feasibility study is to benefit our student body by not sacrificing the Newbury culture and student experience while continuing to keep tuition affordable and award generous financial aid packages. Newbury works to offer new and unique academic and experiential learning opportunities for students and this grant awarded by the Davis Educational Foundation will help Newbury meet the goals of its Strategic Plan.
Newbury President, Dr. Joseph L. Chillo, said, “The rising cost of a college education is concerning and we have taken this innovative approach to a college degree through our 3-year degree program to ensure that college is affordable. Additionally, we know that there are opportunities to examine ways for colleges to reduce operational expenses through shared administrative services. The Davis Educational Foundation Presidential Grant will be used to assist Newbury in exploring with partner institution(s) the ability to develop a shared administrative services model to reduce operational expense and the cost of education for students.”
