Apr. 20, 2019 – Newbury is excited to announce a preferred internship placement for students at Smith & Wollensky, a high-end steakhouse with locations throughout the United States and most recently in London.
According to Matthew Qualter, Newbury’s Director of Experiential Education & Career Services, “We are excited to be sending Newbury College interns to Smith & Wollensky as S&W has an outstanding reputation in the culinary industry and provides students the opportunity of gaining valuable real-world work experience along with receiving supervision and training from world-class chefs.”
Internships offer students many benefits such as the opportunity to gain experience in their major, the ability to develop a professional network, the chance to build workplace confidence and professional behavior and the potential to transition the internship into a full-time position.
Newbury students will receive at least 150 hours of on-site internship experience, including appropriate supervision and training on procedures and processes. They will have the opportunity to update the internship supervisor and internship course instructor regarding internship concerns as well as provide feedback on the overall value of the internship experience. Smith & Wollensky will, in return, develop site appropriate objectives and provide a mid-term and final internship performance evaluation for students.
Students who take advantage of this Smith & Wollensky internship placement will gain valuable experience necessary to enter the workforce Real Life Ready. Newbury continues to enhance the academic experience for students in all programs of study by providing relevant, interesting and educational experiential learning and internship opportunities.
