Ansa Nisar Announced as 2018 Student Commencement Speaker

Apr. 12, 2018 – Newbury College is proud to announce Ansa Nisar as the 2018 Student Commencement Speaker. Newbury President, Dr. Joseph L. Chillo, made the formal announcement at the Student Leadership Awards Brunch on Friday April 6th.

The top ten students from the class of 2018 are invited to submit a speech for consideration by the selection committee. The finalists then present the speech to the committee before the speaker is selected.

At the brunch, President Chillo said, “Like so many award and recognition selections made today, the decision-making process was difficult. There were a number of well-written, heartfelt commencement submissions, but this year's speech on community, determination, and inclusion won over the selection committee.”

Nisar is honored to be selected as the student speaker. She said, “Words cannot describe how thankful I am for this opportunity. I am excited to be representing the students and providing them with a speech that will not only inspire but motivate them to believe in themselves.”

The Commencement Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 6th at John Hancock Hall in Boston. “It feels exciting to be graduating so soon knowing that my college experience has set me up for the next chapter in my life,” said Nisar. “I have been able to come this far in my college career through the support of Newbury staff and faculty who saw the potential in me. The experiences I had through my leadership positions on campus have set me up for my career giving me skills that I know I will definitely utilize after graduation.”

Nisar has accepted a post-graduate position as Operations Project Management Associate at Athenahealth in Watertown, Ma.: “I decided to take the position that would provide me with a great amount of skill set and opportunities to grow within and outside of the company,” said Nisar. “I am looking forward to working at Athenahealth as it is a mission-driven company and the role will enable me to utilize my skills from both Healthcare Management and Accounting degrees.”

Congratulations to Nisar on being selected as the Student Commencement Speaker as well as all of her other accomplishments while at Newbury. The College wishes her well as she enters the workforce.
