Apr. 9, 2018 – The Newbury Nighthawks women's lacrosse program picked up their first win in team history, shutting out the Dean Bulldogs 21-0 on Saturday afternoon from Hormel Stadium in New England Collegiate Conference play.

Nighthawks freshman Hannah Gorham (Lyman, Maine) broke several program records in this game, including eight goals and 11 draw controls. Freshman Venezia Delgadillo (Sharon, Mass.) scored five goals, becoming the leading scorer in the program's history. Freshman Sophia Kiasi (Yorba Linda, Calif.) finished with a hat-trick.

Freshmen Alexia Hines (East Boston, Mass.) and Stephanie Rheaume (Hampton, N.H.) each scored their first career goals.

Gorham, Delgadillo, and Kiasi combined for nine of the first 10 goals for the Nighthawks. Hines and Delgadillo added goals before the half to give the Nighthawks a 12-0 lead.

Gorham added four more goals in the second half for the Nighthawks. Sophomore Angel Ortiz (Topsham, Maine) scored a pair and sophomore Kyliene Phillips (Schenectady, N.Y.) capped off the scoring in the 21-0 win.

"This is a landmark win for our program," said Head Coach Annie O'Byrne. "The team has been improving each game and was poised for a breakthrough."

Nighthawks sophomore Keely Molloy (Staten Island, N.Y.) picks up her first career win and shutout, improving to 1-5 this season.

The win moves the Nighthawks to 1-5 (1-1 NECC), while the Bulldogs fall to 0-7 (0-2 NECC).

"We turned the corner today and put it all together with a complete team effort," said O'Byrne.
