Apr. 5, 2018 – Newbury is proud to announce John Maconga, Executive Director of Boston Scores, has been elected to the Board of Trustees. Maconga brings over 25 years of non-profit management, fundraising, legal, business and financial experience and leadership. Maconga earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from University of Massachuetts, Amherst, as well as his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
Maconga will be an asset to the Board, also serving on the Advancement Committee. He said, “I look forward to joining the Newbury College Community and helping the College to advance its educational mission of empowering students to achieve their personal and professional goals.”
Boston Scores is a non-profit organization focused on providing Boston Public Schools with after school athletic and enrichment programming. Students in grades K-12 are able to participate in soccer practices and games as well as poetry or civic leadership days. Maconga has been working with this organization for over seven years and also serves as a Chair on the National Leadership Council of America SCORES, the urban youth development program of which Boston Scores is an affiliate.
Newbury President, Dr. Joseph L. Chillo, said, “We are fortunate to have John join the Board of Trustees at such an important time in the College's history. His commitment to Boston youth and leadership experience will be of tremendous value as Newbury furthers its commitment to first generation students. John's non-profit experience and thoughtfulness will serve the College well as we continue to implement our Strategic Plan.”
