Sept. 27, 2017 – Newbury College is pleased to announce an expanded relationship with Hellenic College Holy Cross, which provides practice and game fields on the Hellenic campus. Newbury has partnered with Hellenic College since 2000 when the two institutions initiated a cross-registration program and the Nighthawks began using the Hellenic gymnasium for all court sport teams. Recently, a grass field space on the Hellenic campus became available and the staffs of both institutions have worked diligently to improve the field surface to the point where it can appropriately serve as both practice and game fields for Newbury teams.
Strong ties have formed between the two institutions over the last seventeen years. This long-term, mutually beneficial partnership has led to the continued expansion of the relationship. On August 23rd, representatives from the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to negotiate an even further expansion of the relationship. Newbury College hopes to build a multi-use turf athletic field on the Hellenic College campus that would accommodate any rectangular field sport team in addition to softball. The MOU calls for a long-term commitment and could also lead to gymnasium enhancements that would benefit the indoor sport teams.
As part of the MOU, Newbury College will be seeking an Athletic Consortium through the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) with Hellenic College. Such an agreement would allow eligible full-time students of Hellenic College to participate on any of Newbury College’s 15 Division III athletic programs.
Newbury College is continually seeking opportunities to enhance its offerings to its students and embraces partnering with other institutions where the fit and benefits assist the College in advancing its Strategic Plan and supporting its mission.
