July 5, 2017 – Congratulations to Dr. Brian MacAuley, who was named Assistant Professor of Communication in the School of Arts & Design for the 2017-2018 academic year. MacAuley came to Newbury in Fall of 2016, teaching a variety of media and communications courses. Previously, MacAuley has taught at Suffolk University, Northeastern University, University of Massachusetts Boston, Lasell College and The Pennsylvania State University.
“One of my favorite things about teaching is the exchange of ideas in the classroom, and Newbury encourages an interactive teaching style that complements my own philosophy of the classroom,” said MacAuley. “I love the diversity of the Newbury College community, and the size of the College’s campus allows for a unique collaborative relationship between faculty members of many disciplines.”
Newbury is excited to have MacAuley continue his time at the College, teaching and inspiring his students. MacAuley said, “The class I am most excited about teaching at Newbury College is the year-long Capstone course. It is inspiring to see seniors develop creative Communication projects where they put the concepts they have learned into practice and utilize the skills they have developed over their college careers.”
MacAuley has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Suffolk University and a Ph.D. in Mass Communications: Critical/Cultural Studies from The Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Laurie Gordy, Dean of Academic Affairs, said, “Dr. MacAuley is an engaging classroom teacher and an active member of the College community. This past year, Dr. MacAuley was instrumental in reviving Newbury College's radio station. We are excited that he will be continuing at Newbury College as Assistant Professor of Communication.”
