The Documentary: Seeing RED: Addressing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the Massachusetts Juvenile Justice System
Our country is in the midst of a race relations crisis and nowhere is that more evident than in the criminal justice system. In Massachusetts the ratio of black and Latino youth detained is vastly out of proportion compared with their overall populations. Seeing Red was produced by Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Massachusetts to inform viewers and stakeholders within the Massachusetts juvenile justice system about the presence of racial and ethnic disparities at all levels of the system. The purpose of the film is also to highlight positive steps already underway to address inequities and to promote new approaches yet to be implemented.
Come hear from the producer of the documentary, the State Coordinator of JDAI, and a law enforcement officer about the making of the film and the significance of the problems it addresses.
